About Me

Ashley is a Brooklyn-based paintress hailing from sunny Los Angeles. Following a brief four-year stint in Illinois, she graduated from School of The Art Institute of Chicago with a BFA in paint.

This is not my artist’s statement, this is my about me page:

When things happen, they happen in a big, fat, squishy tube… I think that the paint is a way to cut through it and crawl out from inside–to open the portal to the place from before. In real-life the time tunnel squeezes you forward, unwillingly; you go forth scratching and clawing. In paint-life, it’s all happening at once–the then and the now become one, united and frozen and stuck on the wall. This is as much reckoning with my inability to turn real-time into paint-time as it is a method to make it so.
